The engine reassembly is officially underway! With the cylinders reamed, it's time to install the pistons into the IH 304 V8 block. I walk you through my process for setting the piston ring gaps, coating the cylinders with Royal Purple break-in oil (with ZDDP), and torquing down the connecting rods. But that's not all! I also dedicate time to completely rebuilding the oil pump, replacing the shaft, and going through the service manual to check critical body-to-gear and end-play tolerances using feeler gauges and a dial indicator. Finally, I show the process of coating the inside of the engine block with a ceramic coating. Installing Pistons & Rebuilding the Oil Pump! (IH 304 Engine Rebuild)

The International Harvester 304 V8 engine teardown continues! We strip away the last of the top-end components, including the intake manifold, valve covers, and finally, the cylinder heads. After dealing with bolts caked in years of grime (this is seriously the dirtiest engine I’ve ever worked on!), we get a look at the internals. While the valley looks surprisingly clean, pulling the heads reveals the bad news: ridge in the cylinders. This confirms we're looking at a full machine shop trip and a complete engine rebuild. The second half of the video focuses on a crucial step for any high-mileage engine teardown: using a ridge reamer. I give you a detailed, step-by-step guide on how to safely remove the cylinder ridge so we can pull the pistons without damaging them or the block. Top End Teardown & Bad News: Finding Ridge in the Cylinders! | '72 Scout II V8

Welcome back to the '72 International Harvester Scout II restoration! It's too cold to work on the chassis, so we're bringing the International Harvester 304 V8 engine into the warm shop to tear it down and assess its health. Does This 50-Year-Old Engine Need a Rebuild? IH 304 Leak-Down Test! (Scout II Resto)

This is the start of a major restoration project on my 1972 International Harvester Scout II! I've owned this classic 4x4 for several years and it's finally time to tear it down and get to work. In this first video, we finish stripping the body tub and build the custom bracing required to safely lift the tub off the chassis. We also do a full walk-around of the body, inspecting the typical Scout II rust spots, and discover some interesting past "bodywork" (ahem, a flannel shirt!). My goal is to convert this rare right-hand drive (RHD) model back to left-hand drive (LHD) and turn it into a reliable daily driver. Future plans include a new front and rear axle, a Rough Country lift, an EFI conversion on the IH 304 engine, and even a custom Raspberry Pi car computer!
